The Portable I.D. Drive System (PDS) is designed to provide a constant drive speed to retract a 1-1/4” diameter pipe lance used for blasting or coating the internal diameter of pipe. The PDS consists of a frame/assembly skid, drive system and control panel only. Standard 1-1/4” schedule 40 or schedule 80 pipe may be assembled to the desired length by the end user on site to meet the desired length. Lance stands are available as a separate item which may be added to support the weight of the lance. You may also run the tool by inserting the blast hose or air hose directly into the drive system.

Add-Ons for I.D. Coating Application

For coating applications, one of the two add-ons below must be purchased with the unit. These packages do not include a paint tank (low pressure) or airless pump (high pressure). They also do not include a lance or I.D. coating tool. These must be purchased separately. You can see our I.D. coating tools product page here

Low pressure coating add-on includes: 1/4" pilot valve, regulator, 50' of fluid and air hose, stainless steel ball valve w/ actuator, all necessary fittings. This package does not include a paint tank.

High pressure coating add-on includes: 1/4" pilot valve, regulator, 50' air hose, 50' of high pressure fluid hose, automatic spray gun (G40), back pressure assembly, all necessary fittings. This package does not include an airless pump.

Abrasive Blasting

Using the PDS with your blast machine is very simple. As long as you have a pneumatic operated inlet valve that is standard on most machines, hookup is just one 1/4" air hose to your inlet valve. For a "blow down" sequence, an automatic abrasive metering valve is needed. An automatic abrasive metering valve can shut off the abrasive flow to allow only air down the blast hose through the blast nozzles. Commonly used automatic metering valves include: Clemco Sentinel Valve, Clemco PVR Pinch Tube Grit Valve, Schmidt Thompson Valve, and Schmidt Thompson II Valve. For the "blow down" sequence to function, a second 1/4" air line should be connected to your automatic metering valve.

Construction

The PDS consists of a two wheel drive mechanism. A top wheel acts as an idle support while the bottom wheel provides the driving force to move the blast/coating lance in and out of the pipe. All components including the control panel are built into one skid that shall have fork lift slots for lifting and positioning into place.

Control System Specifications

A Human to Machine Interface (HMI) is used to communicate with a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The HMI consists of a Siemens four inch color touch screen. The HMI is responsible for all input data and commands prompted by an operator. The PLC consists of a Siemens S7-1200 module. The PLC is used to collect all incoming commands from the HMI and other field input devices. The PLC uses these inputs and runs through logic to determine outputs through the form of relays and motor control signals to a variable speed drive (VFD). The VFD is responsible for running the drive motor at the desired control speed.

Operator Interface

The operator may input a desired lance speed ranging from 0.0 to 7.5 meters per minute (0.0 – 25.0 ft/min). The system units may be displayed in Metric or English. The operator may determine the drive speed by inputting either the percent power to the motor or specifying a speed in meters per minute or feet per minute.

The operator is responsible for manually starting/stopping the equipment as well as selecting the drive direction (ie. forward/reverse). There are two pneumatic solenoids that may be hooked up to for control. When using the drive system to retract blast equipment, the first solenoid is designated to pressurize/depressurize the blast machine and the second solenoid to turn off/on the supply of grit from the abrasive metering valve.

Other features include a ‘Zero’ button to allow the operator to reset the travel distance from the home screen and emergency stop button to kill all power to the variable speed drive and motor.
